Run up to the Derby

According to one of the worst newspapers in the country, Daniel Agger might be out for the season: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...uspected-medial-ligament-damage#ixzz27KVbdD21

If true, this really hurts the Rodgers circus. Agger is a decent player and without him they have a big hole at the back. For us the timing couldn't be better: Mirallas and Anichebe hitting form, Felli scoring goals and Jelavic poised to return from injury. If Gibbo is back in time to shield the centre backs and dictate play in midfield, we have every chance of a 3 - 0 win.

They're in a sh*t state right now but I fully expect them to turn it round. Anyone with any illusions of them finishing near the bottom of the table, forget it.

seriously hope we turn them over in style as we owe them at least that but you know how these games turn out ......

what i do wanna see is the current mentality we have with the ball and how e have been moving it around this season if we do that for the game we should win

Not sure either of those games our problem was not being able to break down a stubborn defence, West Brom held us at a distance, true, but we got behind Newcastle's loads of times.

The problem at WBA, imo, was Moyes got caught out by Gibson's injury and made the wrong choice as a replacement (Hibbert clearly wasn't ready for 60 minutes). And the problem with newcastle was our defending, Moyes should have seen that Osman and Nevile were tiring and not protecting our defence and done something about it (swapping Fellaini with Osman would have done it or keeping kev on the pitch and replacing one of them two with naismith) but he was concerned with chasing the winner and not with shutting up shop and we got caught out. It happens but I don't think the problem was our attacking play being one dimensional and struggling against a deep defence.

Newcastle put on Ba and him and Cissie bossed us. While we did go for the win, we lost our dominance. To me, it can be avoided.

The same with the Swansea game where we went 2 up. Howard kept us in it for a large chunk. Again, easily avoidable with a few tweaks. We play better sides or sides that park the bus, it'll become tricky.

WBA all he had to do was drop Felli back.

Yep, agree. Fellaini should have dropped back because Hibbert wasn't fit and West Brom's defence were all over him in that advanced role anyway.

It's not that I don't agree that Moyes isn't reactive enough as a manager. I agree entirely. Like I said he should have done something about Osman and neville's inability to protect our defence against Newcastle once it became clear it was a problem.

I just don't think that we have more problems against teams who sit back and invite us on to them then we do against any other kind of team. The idea that parking the bus is our kryptonite isn't one I agree with.

we're creating so much more chances this season though, even though we're not taking the bulk of those chances, we're creating bucketloads so even though we miss a few we're still getting about 3 in the net most games. agree with artetafan, breaking them down wasn't the problem, it was just that we'd only take one chance and they'd go down the other end and score with their only chance ala blackburn home. anyway, we have jelavic now who is a clinical finisher and will hopefully see us win the easier home games by about 4 goals rather than scraping to a 1-1 draw.

WBA game aside we have absolutely dominated every other game, not so much so the man utd game, but we were by far the better team and 2-0 would have been a fairer reflection, i am liking this new attacking belief under moyes, seems to support the theory that he didn't play it before because he didnt feel we had the attacking prowess to thrive under it

I think we'll have too much offensively for Southampton to cope with, but they will score. I hope we break our Wigan away hoodoo because it is quite frankly the sort of game we need to be winning if we're going to be ambitious this season.

Watching QPR v Spurs yesterday, I thought they were desperately unlucky to not have got something from that game. They are playing better than their results indicate. That will be a tough game.

I'm feeling confident. We have already beaten Man Utd and Villa this season, two of our biggest bogey teams. We can do it!!

All 3 are tough. They're the games Moyes has show his worth and be tactically aware as they're gonna turn up, park the bus, fight for the ball, hit us on the counter.

It's these types of games where we slip up, where Moyes is usually found wanting.

He sorts that out, itll inject some faith for me that he's got what it takes and we can push on this season.

So far, I'm still iffy, expecting it to go tits up.

In the past yes this has certainly been the case. However for the first time in years we have players to deal with these tactics.

For me I think we'll beat Southampton and Wigan. QPR will be a tough test, they have some good players and it will come together for them soon. Concentrate on making sure we beat Southampton and Wigan and Dropping points at QPR isn't the end of the world.

2 wins and a loss is better than 1 win and 2 draws...

If they weren't already struggling Kelly is now out for the season and possibly Agger too. Borini is an injury concern as well and Shelvey will have to serve a three game ban.

Their team will need to be something like:

___________Reina
Johnson Skrtel Carragher Enrique
_______Allen Henderson
____Sterling Gerrard Suso
__________Saurez

Subs: Jones, Sahin, Assaidi, Coates, Downing, Pacheco, Flanagan

Rodgers has put himself in a position where he has little option but to rely on youth after excluding Downing and Cole from his recent squads. It will also have put Enrique's nose out of joint that Johnson is currently preferred ahead of him. If they get an injury to Saurez, Gerrard or Skrtel they could really struggle.
