Just wondering, with how well he's doing. Do you think when Everton sold him they put in a buy back clause into his contract? They knew how good a goalkeeper he was and Howard's not going to be staying past his next 5 years. Or is it wishful thinking that we'll get him back?

It looks like he'll have a fantastic highlight reel for this season, albeit most of what i've seen are from MOTD highlights etc...

&& I doubt it!

Can anyone think of a single instance of a big club buying a young and promising keeper and that keeper then going on to make it? Ok, ignore Joe Hart, but anyone else? Seems a complete waste of time given how few first team opportunities reserve keepers get. We've had dozens of promising young goalies down the years and none have looked like making the first team on a regular basis. Gotta be a better way of doing it.

Cech was only fairly young when he first joined Chelsea.

Hmm United bought Ben Foster as a young promising player. Im not saying hes exactly made it but a decent premier league keeper none the less.

He didn't succeed at the club that bought him though. Likewise Cech and de Gea both arrived for huge sums and were bought for the first team rather than buying a young keeper 'for the future'.

Unless the player goes into the first team either straight away or very quickly I just don't think they'll ever make it as what promise they had gets dulled by a lack of action.

Paul Robinson was brought through the youth ranks at Leeds and was under study to Martyn- not bought for money but brought through the ranks.

Mignolet was bought for £2m at Sunderland and was definitely signed as understudy to Gordon. Gordon cant get a sniff now...

Hes 24 and was signed when he was 22.

Sure it does work sometimes. He played 24 times in his 3rd season as a pro so that was decent exposure. Buying a young keeper for them to sit on the bench is lethal for their careers though.
