Confirmed Signing Ruben Vinagre

Yes, but it makes no sense at all. A position that isn’t a priority.
Smacks of poor planning and desperation.
He’s a solid player.
Nothing more
They obviously don’t think Nkounkou is the answer. I suppose he is low cost low risk cover. That’s all.

It seemed an odd signing to me, but I suppose have struggled in the last few seasons because our squad wasn’t deep enough when injuries hit.

Doesn’t mean much but I’m a lot more impressed by the clips I’ve seen of him than I was the ones of Mykolenko back in Jan, looks much more of a natural footballer

Vinagre can play more advanced but he is more of a wing back. Cheap cover and opens up the option for Mykolenko to play LCB when needed, something he has done for Ukraine. It also lets Godfrey focus more on improving at CB. It obviously is not a priority need but it is not without value.

Mad that people are questioning the logic. I know nothing about the player, and he might turn out to be rubbish, but we do need a back up left sided defender/wing back.

Do people not remember Martina and Kenny playing there? Nkonkou is obviously not fancied, and whilst Godfrey can play there, he's not a natural, and it's also not ideal having first choice players as cover for other parts of the team, because ultimately, we'd be weakening our centre back options if Godfrey becomes our only left back for a (hypothetical) couple of months.

I'm not sure where the narrative comes from that Mykolenko is a defensive left back, kind of think it's because he's actually good defensively more so than anything.

In Ukraine for his team and country he's always been a good attacking outlet at fullback - and he's starting to show that here too after he settled in last season.

Not bothered about this lad, could be a decent pickup as cover could be another Nkounkou who never gets on the pitch, minimal costs though so no biggy.
He definitely is better at defending than he is attacking, I mean that's pretty clear. Myko's crossing isn't great at all, but he can improve it, definitely, and I'm sure if we have a more settled back line and a better midfield, whoever we have playing at FB or WB will be able to attack more regularly. He'd never played as a wing-back before coming to Everton, though, whereas Vinagre has played as a LWB much of his career.

A good portion of Everton fans have never understood the need for adequate back-ups that are actually specialists in their positions. I think it's probably a result of the years of having to have a CB cover FB, or an attacking mid also being able to play wide etc. I mean we all do it, versatility is definitely a good thing, but if there's a cheap option to get absolute, proper cover in then I'm glad they've taken in.

Nkounkou seemingly not rated. Guess he hasn't kicked on since he initially looked a prospect.

Sensible low risk cover for us.
