England managers have a weird obsession with southern players. This has been prevalent for years.

Theres no way I could know 100% that he has confidence issues however this happening along with his general demenaour in my opinion leads me to believe he lacks confidence.
Pretty simple, he's better than Tom Davies, and plays for a better club currently.

Barkley could sign for Spurs in January, all of his 'problems' and 'rough edges' would go away and he'd be given a clean slate by them. It's incredible what they do really.

Davies gives the ball away in his own half far too much. That's why he's not getting called up at international level. Mistakes at that level get punished, especially in tight cagey games. I still think Davies' ceiling is higher than Winks all the same, but he's still got a long way to go.

Another Walker-Pieters situation I see ahead - highly touted youngster gets in and around the Spurs squad, gets a few sub appearances and it's a media orgy despite him not doing anythign.
I agree with this completely. To Connor I can agree with your point too. Granted they are much much better than most of our US players but media operates the same way across all countries and is going to hype any young player with potential too much. Just like what happened with Barkley in my opinion.
And I'll say, I could be wrong with Winks, I just think that given he came up through Tottenham's academy he's going to be given the nod over a Ross Barkley to succeed there.

If only England managers actually thought like this. Jake Livermore is getting a call up, Henderson is the captain, Shelvey is now being pushed by the media. How do any of these three use the ball better than Davies?
I watched years of Gerrard and Lampard chasing shadows for England barely managing anything except containment yet not once did the media get on them. Barkley was attacked from all angles as soon as he got in the team and if would be the same for Davies.
Tbh Davies is 19 and the U21s is his level atm. Not that I care in the slightest about England. I hope none of our players ever play for them.

I could state his attitude sucks which you would dispute strongly, but the truth is that neither of us know the truth.
He might just be a shy boy for all we know, he might have just hated Koeman and also his confidence may have been shot to pieces playing in a losing side under Martinez, or from going to being "Golden Boy" to somebody who couldn't even get a look in for his country any more.
Let's just hope that he gets his head down, produces on the pitch and turns into the player he once looked like he could be. Preferably for Everton, but if not then so be it.
