Ross Barkley isn't Everton's problem Everton are Ross's problem seriously when is the last time we won a big game.
Hang on. Your surely going too far the other way in your defence. This season Barkley has grown to be our most influential and creative player, the fact he performed poorly yesterday contributed to our dispiriting defeat. We needed him to be able step up yesterday and be a catalyst for a decent showing at least. Defend him against over the top criticism by all means but you cannot totally exonerate him from any culpability in our defeat.

Fair point I was talking across the last 2 seasons rather than the game in isolation

Could not of worded that better myself! That is exactly how I see Barkley and Tbf I have actually said similar things on toffeeweb myself. To me, that is how he plays and vs the "lesser" teams he more often than not gets away with it and does look to play well but against better teams/players they don't give you that time and hound you and usually force Barkley into mistakes.

Thing is aswell, he's been playing in that similar manner ever since breaking into the first team and doesn't seem to be refining his game. Now if he worked on doing the simple things more often in certain areas of the pitch, and now and again trying the spectacular and incisive stuff in the right areas of the pitch then he could potentially progress into a very good player!

Like Koeman says, he doesn't want Barkley coming deep and taking half a dozen touches in his own half, cos deep down he knows he can be a bit of a liability and make mistakes and lose the ball in dangerous areas. He wants Barkley further forward, getting on the ball in the hole behind Rom and making things happen there and trying tricks, through balls and shots in and around the oppositions penalty area where if it doesn't come off, were still in good positions to recover from that and go again as apposed to him trying stuff in our own half or on the edge of our area where if he loses it we might get punished!

Well said mate ;)

Some media celebrities are having a go at Ross Barkley because of the contentious yellow or red card challenges. I don't think he played that badly compared to the whole team. He looked to receive the ball and tried to make the right decisions. I think his challenge on Lovren was unlucky, Lovren left his own leg in an awkward position and Barkley was trying to trap the ball and it looked worse in slow-mo than it really was.

What is all this abuse going to do to the lads contract stalemate? He is a local lad who takes on board what the locals are saying. It wouldn't surprise me if he said eff this for a bag of toffees, I'm off. Fresh start somewhere else.

If he does go then I will be sad for the fact that he didn't hit the heights with us. I've seen better midfielders in an Everton shirt than Ross Barkley. At the moment he wouldn't get near the Sheedy, Reid, Bracewell, Steven midfield. If people continue to jump on his back then he will never progress to be as good as those four players I mentioned.

We need to support the lad, give him confidence.

We still talking Barkley?!

I think he tanked under Martinez and still has to work out what his game is. Does he beat people a la gazza? No. Free kicks? Not really. Tracking back/ Tackling? Poor.

At his best around the box, give n go, shots, setting players up but his stats there aren't compelling.

He's a young lad still though, needs fitness to be at his best and with the exception of defensive work has proven in flashes he's got the potential in the other areas above.

Go on lad, keep improving.

Seriously ??

Young lad at 23 and near 150 games for Everton?

Tom Davies is a young lad

Barkley can't hide behind this young lad or fans who have a boner for him

Some of you slagging him off are a joke, and could learn a thing or 2 from kopites, you dont see them treating one of their own like this.

Joke some of our so called fans, driving him out of the club....same bells will probably booo him when he plays againts us!!!

And this tells any kid coming through....dont ever not have a great game....these "boss bloos" will hound you out!!!!
