Manchester United have confirmed they have accepted a bid from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo's future at United has been the subject of constant speculation with Real trailing his signature for the last three summers

Real president Florentino Perez has made no secret of the fact that he would like to lure Ronaldo to El Santiago Bernabeu.

Real have now agreed £80million offer for the Portuguese ace and United have given the World Player of the Year permission to talk to the Spanish titans.

Ronaldo will now head to the Spanish capital to hold discussions with Real and undergo a medical.

Real have already snapped up Brazilian superstar Kaka in a world-record deal, but a move for Ronaldo would eclipse that deal.

"Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid," read a club statement.

"At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

"Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice."

Funny, but I'll miss him. He is no doubt a cheat and a prat at times, but he was also entertaining. I agree with Bruce that he is not worth £80 million. Man Utd did well on that sale. Imagine what we could do with £80 million.

What your saying is not strictly true, there is no Golden rule here as many clubs have done what we could "potentially" do.

Manchester Utd sold Beckham for 25 million and brought in Ronaldo for 12 million, Arsenal sold Anelka for 22 million and replaced him with Thierry Henry for 10 million, Arsenal also sold Marc Overmars for 25 million and replaced him with Robert Pires for around 6 million and Seville built a new side by selling prize assets like Jose Antonio Reyes for big money. The list goes on and on really.

It does happen, at every level of Football. If you’ve got a good manager and good money there is a good chance you’ll kick on and improve. Obviously it can go either way but that’s football.

...

They won't win the League next season if he goes.

You can't replace players in football, the Golden rule.

??? :Pb)

Some early talk this morning (Ok, it was on Talksh1te!) about United going next season with Rooney as out and out front man and using the money for Ronaldo to keep Tevez and bring in two [Poor language removed] hot wide players. United should be in for Ribery and/or maybe even Robben.
