The VVD injury was worse because his studs gripped, so that contact didn't move his leg, resulting in damage to his knee. As with the Gomes ankle break, Jonjoe and Richarlison ankle injuries this season. The pitch may look wonderful all through the winter, but this partly synthetic pitch is causing injuries, and should be replaced.
Pickford did what any goalkeeper would do, a keeper having both feet off the floor in a challenge is not automatically out of control, unlike a fullback.
Going back to the late 1970,s being in the Horticulutural industry we used to accept orders for all the parks deliveries - turf always came in heavy cut rolls about 20 cm thick it was heavy layer interlocked with soil brushed in the zig zag joints etc.....
Then one day this turf came in a net meshing rolled up in massive rolls plus wider rolls - my nursery foreman inspected it very clever he stated , but it could never be used on any sports surface as spokes or studs cold get caught trapped in the netting ...
He was spot on ....how many injuries have we seen since it's invention .......far too many sometime well off the ball a stud sinks into the tight hole of the netting and the leg going in a different way knickers knee or ankle ligaments- Arteta at Newcastle springs to mind no one near him ......finished his career imo......
Cisssie for the otherlot at the old Maine road running and getting a double leg break ......same occurrence......
The new turf is quick plus easy to lay but the holes in the mesh are lethal imo......
Only fit for ornamental lawns ......
