I can't recall who said that being a football fan is akin to "being in a lifelong unhappy marriage without any possibility of divorce" My relationship with Everton is like that. I keep making excuses for them, keep rationalising their disappointing/unacceptable behaviour, and come back for more time and again.
"They'll sack him at the end of (last ) season"
"They'll sack him after the league cup semi final"
"They'll sack him after the derby embarrassment"
"They'll sack him after the F.A. Cup Semi-Final"
"Theyll sack him next week"
"They'll sack him in the summer"
I invest time,money,love,energy into Everton. I do so because it is a big part of my life. I want to see the club I grew up to adore to strive to be the best, never settling for 2nd or worse. This is a pipe dream. I feel if I could have 30 seconds to speak to the baord from the heart, they would see how much I and thousands of others care so deeply. Martinez would surely be out the door then.
Nothing at all against Martinez, we are just stuck in such a bad situation at present - toxic is the word used - do the decent thing not least for him and send him on his way, Everton.
There's a lot in that. I have to say what has been distasteful this week is the suggestion that the Hillsborough tragedy may have kept him in a job. Seems a bit of a low blow.
After the derby defeat he should have gone. Giving him the Wembley game was fair enough but that should have been it after Wembley. Like West Ham did with Avram Grant. Losing 4-0 to Liverpool in the manner we did shouldn't be tolerated. You have Martinez coming out and giving press conference saying we had a good half (a 1-1 draw) against a poor United team. It embarrasses the club and will only be alienating the fans further.
He is making out we are getting better and better. I think Martinez would have won himself a lot of plaudits if he'd have been a bit more frank and dare I say honest in his press conference. He has lost the players anyway so alienating them further won't do much. Something akin too;
"The result against Liverpool remains an embarrassment. The players had an opportunity to rectify this on Sunday but only turned up half way through. I won't tolerate this any longer if I remain as an Everton manager.
Come the summer there will be big changes and those who have let them club down will go. My teams will not play for half a game when it suits them, and I will get in players who want to be here and want to win."
In management they always say, people will forgive you if you try to tackle a negative person/culture and fail but won't they won't forgive if you not dealing with it and ignoring it's there. Lukaku swans around like he doesn't want to be here. Stones carries on like a kid in games this season. I get no impression that either have been challenged on this. That's not then mentioning players like Mirallas' antics, Barkley & Deulofeu being too unfit. Is it any wonder that the senior players have lost faith in him?
And in the press conference there is no urgency whatsoever. He was honest after the Liverpool game and I appreciated that but a week on and it's back to normal again, having lost a cup semi final. He's a nice man Martinez but we will go nowhere under him.
