Turbos are great as they give you a great return for your training buck. Did a 90 minute session on mine this morning before work. Nice hard 53km ride.

I wouldn't recommend putting your shiny new BMC on it though :) You boys training for anything next year?

I use cycling more for cross-training purposes as my main sport is inline skating, and there are some (inline) marathons and other endurance races that I normally do each year.

Having said that I do want to do more cycle miles next year, and I'm going to have a serious go at the Richmond Park 3 lap challenge (which is 3 laps of the long circuit.. target time 1hr.. roughly about 32km - but it is fairly hilly!). I can comfortably do 1 lap in 23 minutes on my hybrid, so with some training and a race bike I should be closer.

Are you from that part of London? It's a bit of a trek to get down to RP through some horrid roads so I tend to go out into Kent instead. Think London Dynamo are regulars at the park though.

If you ever fancy going out for a spin though, I go out most Sundays for 4 hours or so.

Same as Webby I generally use my bike for general fitness. I live on Anglesey which is approx 25 miles straight across from where I live to the mainland but it's also quite rural so there are so many variables through differing back roads and country lanes that I am able to change my route whenever I go out. Jees....half of this Island I have not even seen yet !!

I'm finally taking the plunge and getting a Road Bike this month after swearing blind that a mountain bike was just as good not so long ago, not sure what I'll get yet but I've been convinced by enough people that it's worth it if I'm planning on doing a lot more cycling. Hopefully gonna do my 2nd London to Brighton next year and get as early a start time as possible to avoid the massive queues that build up on the hills. British Heart Foundation have also added a London to Southampton as well so going to give that a go, as well as a couple of local charity rides. Would love to do the Lands End to John O'Groats or London to Paris eventually but my fitness is way off that level.

Sounds good, Brucie. I am right on the doorstep of Richmond park. Gimme a couple of months to get the bike and get used to it. Not sure about joining a club.. I kinda look down on the full Lycra type lol (until I join them).

I tend to steer clear of the clubs as well. Can get all a bit clique'y. Drop me a PM if you wanted a ride sometime in the new year.

Anyone know of a good brand for front lights? Been doing a bit of nigh cycling on country roads recently, not picking up the odd pothole with my current set of lights is a bit annoying!

Lezyne mini drive front lights are fantastic...for 40 sheets you'll have no problems seeing and being seen. Try Evans in town

Went out on my mountain bike today for a spin... the weather here is pretty bad at the moment and the winds are very strong ( I live right on the coast ) .... No lie, It took me 54 mins to cycle 10.4 miles..... okay it wasn't all flat roads....I did a few miles around a country park but still...it was the hardest 10 miles i had ever ridden,,, totally underestimated the wind strength lol.

In Britain cycling into a headwind is probably the best climbing workout you can get. Suppose this is where a power meter or something similar comes in handy as even though the wind is making you crawl along you can still see that you're hitting good numbers. Not that I have one of those mind, I just tend to swear at the wind.
