A new contract means he's almost certainly going to be with us for at least another season, so it's great news, as most of us thought we'd probably lose him this summer.

Romelu Lukaku has agreed a new five year deal at Everton with "all terms legally agreed between all representatives" according to Jim White on talkSPORT.

Jim White: "Lukaku will put pen to paper this week, it's all legally agreed, it's all done. It just needs to be signed off".

And even if he does leave in the summer, this will ensure we get a shedload of money for him, so we have required insurance in place

A release clause of about £80m will have been put in this contract, which means interested teams will have to put up or shut up if they want him. And he can't go sulking and trying to force a move if we reject any bids below that. This is significant for sure.

If he had any real intention of leaving this summer he wouldn't have signed at this point imo.

This will be superb news, can only mean that things are looking good for the summer too. Otherwise he wouldn't be staying if there was nothing already in place.
