By god I'm blue

Sorry for asking if this has been covered in another thread, but after a debate with a red about Gerrard's comments yesterday, he has basically thrown at me that a large section of Evertonians were singing "murderers" and the "always the victim" song at them on sunday.

Can people who were there confirm if this was the case or not?

I don't remember hearing murderers but I did hear a couple of brief outbursts of the victim song. I refuse to join in with the nonsense of the latter given that really it's just Manc's views on scousers in general so they can get to ****. I turned round to shout it down and got a bit of stick off some knob who said he'd sing what he liked. Sound and I'll call you a [Poor language removed] for it.

Who cares?

If you really want to play the self-righteous competition, then you just provide your opponent with the Youtube video of about 500 RS having their own Munich celebration concert on a non-matchday.

I can't stand the self-righteous competition to be honest, although I do use it to annoy kopites sometimes. It's a football match, not a Surrey ballet convention.

The always the victim song is spot on, though. It has nothing to do with Hillsborough, it's just about how they are to be honest. Your mate was just an ignorant little minge.

LOL at the 2nd bit.

I know everyone has their own take on things but that did make me laugh.

And thanks for pointing me in the direction of that on Youtube, there are lots of hidden gems out there! :)

I said the victim song only really came about last year after the Suarez race row, before then that wasn't sung, am I right?

Having said that, some chants are out of order, the likes of which Millwall have no problem in chanting etc.

But it goes way OTT IMO. You end up in a situation where people start fabricating stories about what was sung. Or, as in this case, you get someone trying to make a massive thing about a couple of hundred people singing a song about being victims.

It probably was sung, but I stick by my initial reaction, which is who cares even if it was sung?

That's right. I just felt uncomfortable that some - a small minority it must be said - United fans used it in the aftermath of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's findings being published that I'm just wary that it's origins lie more in a general antipathy towards scousers and the idea that Liverpool is self-pity city.

Liverpool* are trying to turn those songs anti Hillsbrough songs, they are not. In the fact for them to suggest that the victim one was Hillsbrough kind of proves the song right. The Victim song hasn't exactly took off at Everton either. I've always relied on people telling me it's been sung rather than known it 1st hand.

*Perhaps I mean the media, as I haven't heard any reds say it who I've spoke to.

I was in the lower Gwladys where I guess statistically the higher amount of bells will be. There was no Murderers chants but some just hear random isolated murderers shouts.

There was a very short rendition of always the victims, which I did not join in with, oh and the Babys not yours as well.

Tools. To be fair though, after the second liverpool goal went in an old fella jumped up, and some tit started giving him agro. About 5-10 diffrent blues stood up to defend the Kopite which I thought was decent.

Yes, it was.

But if your mate tries to make out that "Always the victim" is about Hillsborough, chin him.

I dont recall anything but so ****ing what if we were?

They call us bitter, thats not true, so we can call them murderers which is generally untrue also.

Ideally we wouldnt do that but whatever....

"Always the Victim" is about Heysel, Bulgarian waiters, Gerrard's ludicrous actions in Southport, wearing t-shirts to defend a convicted racist etc etc. It has nothing to do with Hillsborough and is therefore a legitimate chant.
Also it is definitely not used by the Mancs to have a pop at scousers in general - just an anti Red ****e song.
