Posted this in another thread but deserves to be in here as it is an Olympic memory.

Daley mocks the supposed greatest athlete in the world after claiming Decathlon gold.

The T-shirt was my idea. Who else’s would it be? There are 300 Olympic gold medallists at any one time. I figured that if you are going to stand out you have to show a bit of personality. Carl Lewis, who won three gold medals in LA, didn’t speak to me from that day onwards until I met him in Beijing in 2008. He asked me if I could believe how fast Usain Bolt was going. I hadn’t missed Carl at all.

Whistling the National Anthem at LA. I figured they were playing it for me, so why not? What’s the harm? Nobody knew at the time that my whistling might well have been better than my singing voice.

​Remember him scoring an absolute blinder at wembley as well.

Remember Coe v Ovett in Moscow, think Alan Wells won the 100m as well, 1980 I think. In those days though, we, as in the "public", had as much interest in the winter games, with John Curry, then a few years later Robin Cousins & Torvill & Dean skating around the world.

He was on the Gabby Logan hosted show about three nights ago. Michael Johnson and McEnroe there too. Wells pointed out he was the last white man to win the olympic 100M. You could almost hear the toes curling in the studio. It was one of those horrific tv moents that you know you should turn away from but cant manage it.

I didnt get that at all, with the docs that have been made about Jamaican sprinters and the Afro Caribbean dominance in the sprints since, it was a valid point some new eyes may have enjoyed knowing. We are all adolescents once and the stuff adults take for granted as being known has to be learned somewhere along the line. Bit Curmudgeonly that sir.
