I got a baseball cap from Mexico 1984, it had been swapped by my Dad for whatever, I was only small but I could recognise the Olympic logo.
Seoul 88 I have a vague memory of the mens hockey, but I specifically remember the closing ceremony and the BBC credits as the coverage ended.
Barcelona 1992 was the games I could fully get my head around. Mercury singing, Christie and Gunnell, Boardman.
Atlanta 1996, I have absolutely no memory of this games at all, maybe I am misremembering and have put any iconic moments from this games into others. (It'll be Redgrave "shoot me" wont it)
Sydney 2000, up late watching Fraudley win gold in the boxing. Freeman.
Athens 2004, the Greek sprinters 'falling off a motorbike' and avoiding drugs tests but being removed from the games.
Beijing 2008, Kelly Holmes & Hoy.

I get the feeling this Olympiad will be remembered for the so called 'Super Saturday' where in one golden hour team GB got 3.

What are the memories you have of previous Olympic games and what will be the one that stands out most from London 2012 ?

I thought 84 was Los Angeles for some reason... I was only nine then though.

I was 16, just left school, parents gone to Tenerife. The money they left "for emergencies" was spent almost entirely in the 1st day on a pair of Lendle Court Trainers, some cans and a box of Henry Winterman Royales. Sat up watching the whole of the games blowing smoke rings and supping cans, admiring the U.S. Kappa Trackies.

2012 iconic moment globally: Usain Bolt double.

2012 iconic moment for the British: dancing horses.

100m Freestyle.

Bloody Legend.

Was that 2000? Seems like only yesterday...

2012 iconic moment globally: Usain Bolt double.

2012 iconic moment for the British: dancing horses.

Haha... no.

Ben Johnson is my main memory of '88, and Linford getting upgraded to Silver. Couple rowing memories from 92/96, Sir Steve, and the Searle brothers (went to my school). Boardman, Cathy Freeman. Men's hockey in 92.

Moscow and the boycott.

Alan Wells in a photo finish, then the olympic flag and anthem being used at his ceremony.

Big butch East German women in EVERY discipline. Scarily butch.

Amateurs in the footy.

Yep, your right, Mexico was 68, 84 was LA. Told you I didnt remember it.

Mexico and LA are basically the same thing, so the original poster was correct.

Best thing about the 1984 Olympics were the McDonald's game tickets. You got a ticket with an event on it. If the USA won a gold in that event, you got a Big Mac, for a silver you got fries, and so on. But in order to not be taken to the cleaners, they printed most of the tickets with events that we typically sucked at. However, when the Soviets and the Eastern Bloc countries boycotted, we suddenly cleaned up at these events. My 13 year old self, and millions others, almost bankrupted McDonalds that summer.

1996 and finding out who was a kopite by when they cheered for the US in any event. Seriously, "I LUV DEM CUZ 'DEY WINZ!"
