Post-Derby Blues...What are we missing?

Our CM is lacking and with Gibson missing we have shown we are desperate for bodies

I honestly think they where there for the taking today and if Kev hadnt been injured I think we would have won, Playing Guaye was like being down to 10 men

Pienaar being out was a massive blow as him on one wing and Kev on the other could have caused them havoc

This is the worst Liverpool side I have seen in my life time and today proved it the Allen being like Xavi is laughable, Without Suarez I think they would struggle to beat anyone in this league

Last point, It was great to see Gerrard playing like a [Poor language removed], His days are long gone

I agree with this. It's important we get Gibson back asap, and that we get someone else who can fill that role in the next transfer window. If we can offload Gueye for money that would be great too.

strength in depth. when we have a fully fit squad we can match anyone. we need another midfielder and a better backup to jelavic. vic has done well but if jelavic was to get a bad injury i couldn't put all my faith into the lad, much better impact player.

It's not luck, we lack the mentality that they have had for so, so long. We say that they live in the past and off their former glories, but that seems to propel them in games against us to the point where I think they actually believe that they have some sort of divine right to never lose to us.

Its another Striker.

Jelavic had a stinker today, not through want of trying, his touch just totally deserted him.

Not really much else we could have done... I had hopes for Gueye but on the strength of his last few outings, he's gone backwards.

And shoot me, but I really though some super speedy fresh legs in the form of McAleny could have nicked something in the end against tired legs.

As others said its money.

Our lads have to give 100% every game and be fit without injury for the whole season. The game from what I have read would have been different if Gibson was playing and Mirallas wasn't injured during the game.

It's hard for any player to be at their best for every game - we are not able to sub a player for like to like if they are injured or their game is off for one day.

Today looking at the stats we played the best we could considering two of their players should have gone and we lost Mirallas.

Until we get new investment we will always be punching above our weight.

A proper defensive midfielder being that Fellaini looks like hes not gonna play there any time soon.

And I dont think theres a proper leader in the back 4

We gifted them two goals but we had to work for ours. Normally around November time we get our act together defensively. Maybe Gibson coming back into the side and Neville (inevitably) reverting to right back or Heitinga deputising for Distin will be the catalyst for that?

*Howard seems to be a bit of a passenger for me at the moment.
*I think Moyes should switch Fellaini and Osman depending on the circumstances.
*I like the look of Naismith and I expect that he would do well as a Cahill/McLair rather than coming in from the right. Maybe we could try a reshuffle with Felli dropping deeper, Neville switching to fullback, Coleman moving forward and Naisy slotting in behind Jelavic?
*We need attacking options from the bench. I'd like to see Vellios, Oviedo and Gueye getting regular game time so that they're ready if we need to throw them on. Can 'Tollos play with Nikica? Can Oviedo cut it as a winger? We don't know.
*We seem to have forgotten about defending. I wouldn't complain if we tightened up a bit and nicked a few games 1-0 before Christmas.

I don't understand all the moyes bottling it comments?? I didn't look to me like we went out scared or defensive. In no way did Liverpool deserve to be 2 up and we certainly didn't crumble upon going 2 down as we would of in the past.

Yes IMO we are a better team (all fit) than them now but every injury we get weakens us. To have no pienaar and Gibson does even it up more and to loose mirallas at HT took away a major threat.

As everyone has said, our weakness this year is squad depth and its showing. Really could have done with a player of Donovan's quality to come in today. You then would of been bringing Naismith on instead of guaye. Was no one to replace jelavic who was having a poor game either.

So what do we need?? Still 2/3 quality players to add quality to the squad not just first eleven.
Landon Donovan - Lewis holtby - Ofoe as a minimum. Maybe even another striker. That's the kind of players u need ready to come in for the big games when injury/suspensions strike. And tbh unless we can add players of that quality we will NOT get 4th or even 5th.
