Spot on, he was also not keen on buying stones but the scout pushed for this. Plus a DOF needs to have world class communication skills. Moyes is an old fashioned manager.
You mean he trusted the word of a colleague from a scouting team he'd put together and signed a player he wasn't 100% convinced on......that sounds, errr like a positive thing for a director of football.
The reason people like me say he would be good in that role is that he built up:
(1) An excellent scouting team
(2) An excellent team of sports scientists / analytics teams
(3) A well regarded medical and fitness team
(4) Appointed excellent youth academy staff (and left them to get on with the job based on their expertise)
(5) Was a key driver in the Finch Farm project
A few years ago the club with articles being written about them for how they were working "smarter" against the richer clubs was us. Consistently outpeforming the financial position of the club is what every chairman wants. I don't think people realise how good we were at that and how that legacy was disrupted when
Moyes left and key personnel followed (either with
Moyes or resigned after Martinez left). A lot of Moyes teams were snapped up by Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd.
I'd happily have him back to oversee that side of the club but I very much doubt he'd be interested.
