Current Affairs Poppy season crassness

By basically forcing people to wear a poppy (see the uproar if someone dares not wear one on telly), people's genuine mark of respect have been stolen. I put money in, don't wear a poppy (because I'd probably lose it anyway and I'm naturally contrarian) but have complete empathy with the fellow humans so horrendously affected by someone else's 'war'. What was once a empathetic gesture has become a judgment of one's patriotism and, consequently, political stance. A sincere gesture hijacked by insincere virtue-signallers.

I bought a poppy and lost it approximately 5 minutes later.

I wore my pin with pride this year! I figured that putting my money in the collection box and pausing at least once in a year to remember what had been sacrificed and why was far more important than any outward gesture.

Could not agree more!

This really.

It’s also become something of a rallying cry for the more nationalistic elements in this country as well.

Tbh, it’s no different than team ‘taking the knee’….
