I can't speak on behalf of Dan, but I believe the upgraded lounge was in part designed as a thank you to people for supporting the site, and in return for their investment of both time and money, they had access to a more open place to post. The belief at the time was that forum supporters are good members and deserve that faith put in them.

It's not a perfect system, and I wouldn't claim that it is, but that's the intention to the best of my knowledge.

That simply boils down to wealth equals good. There's a BUPA advert running at the moment that has the same underlying mentality, if you can afford their private health plans you will beat cancer. If you can't? Well tough.

Why not just have 1 politics thread that is about everything and anything political and if a few people are ruining it for everyone give them a thread ban for a few days.

Surely something like that is better than binning it completely which is obviously massively unpopular.

We're not binning it completely, we're moving it to a part of the site that is largely unmoderated

Very sad news this, as someone who was not all that arsed about politics, the debates on here have educated and peaked my interest in current affairs with good debates showing both sides of topics unlike the bias crap the press pedals. Can @Walken's kind offer for politics mod not be considered? He comes across an impartial, level headed character. .
