Victory on Tuesday night for Will Tamen's Tranmere, 3-1 at Cheltenham. He played the whole match. Tranmere are 4 points clear of the drop zone in 20th.
Eli Campbell and Martin Sheriff both started for Port Vale at Cardiff. Sheriff came off after 72 minutes with the game scoreless. Cardiff scored a winner late on. Port Vale are 2nd bottom.
I actually watched both of these games, bit of a slow week I suppose.
Tamen started on the left side of the back 3 and really struggled with his body shape and passing out. At half time the manager swapped him over to the right side and he looked much more comfortable. He went on one of his trademark runs through the midfield which didn't really come to much. He also has developed a pretty impressive long throw. Didn't use it much for throws into the box as they had another chap but it did help Tranmere move up the pitch safely. He really came into his own near the end of the match with a few trademark headed clearances. Was right in with the team celebrations at the end too so seems to have settled nicely there. Overall a solid 6/10 performance.
Thought Sherif was pretty poor. Port Vale were playing a 5221 and Sherif was generally the right sided #10. An odd choice for a battering ram type striker in my opinion. He battled a bit but was clumsy on the ball and didn't seem to have any real chemistry with his right back or centre forward. He did however track back a lot so has definitely bought in to the defend first mentality that Port Vale clearly had. 4/10
Campbell played left sided centre back in a back 3 (back 5 really). Was pretty solid all night really, nothing too special but was calm under a pretty good press from Cardiff and wasn't at fault for the goal. 6/10
