Players Out on Loan 2022/23

Ellis Simms at Sunderland (Championship) was not in the matchday squad for his side’s 0-0 draw at home to Blackpool.

Niels Nkounkou at Cardiff (Championship) played the full match in his side’s 1-0 home win over Blackburn.

Lewis Warrington at Fleetwood (League One) was subbed off in the 79th minute with the scoreline at 0-1 having been booked in the 21st minute of his side’s 0-1 away win over Tyler Onyango’s Burton.

Tyler Onyango at Burton Albion (League One) was an unused sub in the above mentioned 0-1 defeat to Fleetwood.

Lewis Dobbin at Derby County (League One) scored in the 29th minute before being subbed off in the 67th minute with the scoreline at 1-1 in his side’s 1-1 draw away to Mansfield in the Papa John’s Trophy; Mansfield won 6-5 on penalties.

Lewis Gibson at Bristol Rovers (League One) came on in the 63rd minute with the scoreline at 1-0; his side ended up winning the match 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace U21’s in the Papa John’s Trophy. Rovers also had a player sent off in the 85th minute.

First minutes for Gibson in ages. Good to see him match fit again.

Feels like the kind of loan he needed tbh. A bit of a culture shock for a player that's really coasted through youth football thanks to his physique. Will be interesting to see how he reacts.

Feels like the kind of loan he needed tbh. A bit of a culture shock for a player that's really coasted through youth football thanks to his physique. Will be interesting to see how he reacts.

Yeh, I guess he needed a bit of lower league. There may well be a development plan that we are not aware of (either that or he's crap)....

He did come on a couple of years ago, it was a weekday game I am sure but not sure of the rest.

yeh they both came on near injury time i think

Think he was given the first couple of games, didn't make an impression and hasn't been handed a league start since.

These kids won't be given 5/6 games to acclimatise, they get one chance, maybe 2 max to nail down a spot otherwise it's back to the bench or not in the squad at all.

Only Astley, Virginia and Warrington have completely nailed down their places and Dobbin is doing well and Branthwaite is getting minutes

Gibson only just back fit so hopefully we see him starting to get minutes, Nkounkou looks like hes settling down, Broadhead in and out of the Wigan team, Simms been injured for a while and Onyangos loan probably going the worst out of all of them so far.

….as I suggested at the beginning of the season, sending our Academy youngsters on loan is rarely straightforward, it’s tough winning places in competitive leagues.

Yeh, I guess cos he was around the first team (we were thin on the ground), Id hoped he’d be further ahead. Guess not

And yet we have others out on loan doing really well
