Player ratings vs Liverpool

It was a decent performance, about what I'd expect from us with the lineup we had out. We've done well not to crumble after going behind the last few weeks. Very pleased how Mirallas looked to impose himself on the game rather than shying away, he could make a huge difference to us at home if he keeps that attitude for every match.

What surprised me most though was how poor Liverpool were. Suarez aside they looked very ordinary considering what they've done to us almost every derby for the last however many years, easily dominating midfield and being patient in possession at the back. They had a little spell at the beginning of the game, but once we started applying pressure high up they couldn't keep the ball at all. Hopefully they won't sign the whole world in January.

Shouldn't have surprised you - they had teenagers and derby debutants all over the show, along with over the hill or overrated players.

To be honest, we should have won and we should be disappointed we didn't. If we had turned up in the first 20 minutes we'd have won at a stroll.

Who was it mate, I had some dutch commentry on the link I had up, I'm swerving pundits full stop from now on.

On the game, I was all for slating Nev and Ossie's partnership before the match, but they did very well, especially Osman, though they are much more likely to suceed when Felli is on the pitch to help them out

It was Jim Beglin on the dutch channel...unashamedly biased.

People were saying that about Ossie until this season. Given Allen gets creamed over for them for his supposed Xavi like performances, Ossie was the best midfielder on the park today.

Sadly I don't have a lot of time to come to GOT as much as I used to. Haven't watched an Everton match for a long time.

From what I've read here about Ossie, he's not having the best of times. I have to admit that Ossie is my favourite player and I was really glad that he played so well today. I even wrote that he oozes class in the match thread.

Since the days I started following Everton this is the best squad I've ever seen, apart the 80's. And I'd put money on saying that Osman would have played in all the teams I've seen from Everton.

Today he was our little general. His pass was superb. His coolness on the ball, even when he was under pressure, was sublime.

I really think of him as our Xavi (keeping in the mind the notorious differences).

One other player caught my eye today...Naismith. He looks to be more suited to play behind the striker. He seemed to be one of those players who think fast and can create something with a first touch pass. His movement is good and I thought he worked hard today. Not a winger, though.

I think he'd do a good job for a midtable side in France or Spain, but there's no way on Earth he's a Premier League standard winger.

It's like Bilyaletdinov - good technique, pretty tidy but he couldn't outpace Skrtel.

its not even that billy had class technique as his goals and assist shown he was just so lightweight 4 the prem

I was impressed by naismith today, first half especially. Kept possession well under pressure with one touch passes, has good vision and is dangerous in the box. Our most composed player first half yesterday after osman. He deserves a lot of credit.

Howard 6 - Not at fault for either goal, and pretty much did nothing else, made a good save later in the game and was well positioned for the Jagielka block and Baines block.

Coleman 7 - great bombing forward, got exposed on the first goal. Still needs to work on not getting caught out and run by when defending, but he is showing some solid promise. Why on earth did we ever wait this long to play him at RB? And I want to leave him there. I know Hibbo is ready, but leave Coleman in.

Jagielka 7 - great blocks, good judgment. Would have had an 8 minus the dubious foul on Sterling.

Distin 6.5 - little too bambi like today for me, Suarez ran around him a little bit.

Baines 7.5 - dangerous service like usual, and nothing he could do about the first goal.

Mirallas 8.5 - MOTM. Was causing them all sorts of problems for the first half, and was a one man wrecking ball on their defense. Lovely. I loved the back heel turn leading to the pass off Fellaini. It was brilliant and so is he at times. Once he learns his teammates even more and commits to the one touch pass even more? Look out. Even better. Great pick up by Moyes. Great.

Osman 7 - I still think he's exposed for pace, and because of his goal graded him a little higher. I honestly didn't see the MOTM performance that some folks are talking about.

Neville 5 - Slow. Slow, slow, slow. Gibbo, please for the love of god heal up.

Naismith 6.5 - Great run for the goal. Didn't really see him do much of anything else except work hard, but everyone else was working hard, so....meh.

Fellaini 5 - out of sorts. I just like him better in midfield - but that's my personal bias.

Jelavic 4 - Not his best game today, but after his run, he was due a few of these. I have no issues with it and the rest of the team picked up the slack.

Gueye 3.5 - Great loan candidate.

Oviedo - not rated, too little game time

Howard 6 - Nothing of real note. To be said here, I did pap myself late on with that long free kick on goal.

Coleman 6.5 - Looks good attacking, still worries me defensively, dives in a little too much for my liking. Improving all the time.

Jags 7 - Solid, looked assured yesterday with a good block in the 2nd half.

Distin 5 - What is it with jag's partners this season? Love Sylvain like but not his game yesterday.

Baines 7 - Good going forward, looked better when Oviedo was on, found space, typical baines yesterday.

Mirrales 8 - Looked so dangerous with him on the pitch, not scared to run at players and a sublime touch in the box just before he went off. This kid is class.

Osman - 7.5 Not afraid to tackle, kept his passes nice and simple, scored a goal, looked assured. Played Ossie lad.

Neville 6.5 - Best i've seen him play in a long time, that dive was atrocious. Backed off to easily in second half but did ok.

Naismith 7 - Good movement for the goal, looked up for passes, worked hard.

Fellaini 6 - Clearly not fit, did ok. Few nice touches, few fouls, will get better when fitter.

Jelavic 5 - Poor yesterday, don't think he offered much and wasn't great in front of goal. Wouldn't of been surprised if he'd of got hooked.

Neville 4 - Honestly dreadful. He hid behind players when we had throw ins to avoid responsibility, never requested the ball, gave it away consistently, had one good moment with an interchange with Coleman but that was literally it. Early in the second half he almost cost us the game as he afforded the defence no protection whatsoever and Sterling/Suarez ran riot on the counter. An absolute liability.

All of that is complete blinkered bollocks, but I think I'll just argue with facts to save time:

Phil Neville - Passes: 52. Pass completion rate: 94%.

Compare that to Liverpools clearly talented midfield:

Joe Allen - Passes: 43. Pass completion rate: 86%.
Steven Gerrard: Passes: 39. Pass completion rate: 90%.
Nuri Sahin: Passes: 12. Pass completion rate: 58%.
Jonjo Shelvey: Passes: 21. Pass completion rate: 71%.

Either you're just lying, or you've got a very selective memory.
