Pienaar retires from international football

The African nations every 2 years is a bit much. Bonus not to lose the only creative player we have.

Is Belgium in Africa?

Bit harsh mate! Bout Mirallas? Baines? Osman is not great but hes creative! Fellaini? Hes creative but just in a totally different way to Pienaar, he creates by being a wrecking ball!

Pienaar is important dont get me wrong, but come on buddy!!

Sorry, Leon.

Am I the only one who is Country over Club?

...that said. Excellent to see him the blue.

Not the only one. It always saddens me to see a player retire from international football, in particular one at the age of 30. It's an absolute loss for South Africa, and if I were a Bafana Bafana fan I would be upset and not pleased to be totally honest.

It's the player's decision of course, but age 30 seems awfully young in international football these days.

This is one place where I think being American does give us a different answer due to the youth of our national team. I am always going to pick my national team over my club for its continued development right now. Always.

And yes, that means if Tim Howard is called, I expect him to go.

With all of that said, now that he's made his decision, happy to see him help us win.

Bonus \o/

btw he looks weird without the funky hair, makes him look like a lil kid running around the pitch....

I literally was like, "where's Pienaar" for a good 10 minutes of the last game until I figured out he had shaved off his hair! He does look a lot younger.

Boss!

No Landon then.

If LCAB is right - which he usually is - wasn't on loan anyway. Was permanent. As in adding to our depth.

Don't we want depth? We are still 1 injury away from Naismith/Oviedo/Osman/Gueye on the wing. 1 injury. Also wouldn't it be great if we were able to sub quality players with...quality and save legs in each game?

Does that 1 injury thing scare no one else but me? I still think we are thin. But I'm risk averse.

Fine, let's say LD doesn't happen since I know multiple readers are already screaming, "but we want someone younger!". I still wouldn't mind bringing in another quality winger reinforcement in the event that someone pulls a hamstring at some time. Cause we know it'll at least happen once. And WHEN we place higher up in the table, we'll have more games next year.

So, depth? At least let's add to the squad in Jan. Having just enough to cover XI is not the best situation to be in. Everywhere I read about our great start to the season every single analyst caveats it by saying "they are 1 injury away from a swoon".

Would love another DM, winger/someone who could help stretch defenses at forward, LB - in the dream state I'm apparently living in. CB I think we are covered, CM we are covered, RB covered with the emergence of Coleman and Hibbo as back up. So the areas listed earlier are the areas that bother me in terms of depth.

Good news for us. We are more fluid and play better football with him the side and I was a little worried at how we would do in his absence. I wonder if this was a condition of his transfer back...
