Everton defender Phil Jagielka has today signed a new contract with the Blues.

The new contract will keep the England international at Goodison Park until 2015, replacing his old deal which was due to expire in 2014.

Since joining the Blues from Sheffield United in 2007 Jagielka has made himself a key member of David Moyes´ squad, as well as earning six England caps.

The news will come as a welcome relief for Evertonians who are enduring a largely forgettable season. David Moyes will be hoping to keep hold of his top players in preparation for next season. With speculation surrounding the future of the likes of Jack Rodwell and Marouane Fellaini, Moyes will surely hope that Jagielka is the first of many to commit to new long term contracts.

He's a good lad Jags.

Needs to get his form back like. Think that niggle he's had all season hasn't helped. Hes not been able to get fully fit all season

Happy about this, come summer other clubs -Arsenal again? - will be sniffing around him. Tying down our better players sends a positive message to those who might be thinking of other options.

great news

a wee reminder of his finest moment so far

Dont think he was ever going to leave for Arsenal anyway, but its really just a 12 month deal added to the 3 years he had left[its not like he was leaving in may],Just more money to himself,Ha i just wish a "NEW" 4 year deal meant it was added on at 2014 when his contract was up meaning he would be here till 2018 for example lol, very good player who has had his up and downs this season-he just needs to stop scoring OGS lol,to many against us hes scored.
