Excuse me language but this Merson fella is completely clueless. Just saw his interview on Sky and it left me fuming,It is idiots like Merson that perpetuate the common misconception about English footie fans:Arrogant,abnonxious and ignorant.Where does he get off claiming that half the England team could walk straight into Italy's starting 11? Or calling Wilshere world class?Has there ever been an overused term in football such as the aforementioned anyway? He goes on to mention Rooney's name in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi? Really? No wonder the rest of the footballing world hates us, it's all thanks to footie geniuses like the great Paul Merson!!!!

A colleague of mine is a Swiss expat and he gave me a ring shortly after we lost to Italy, screaming with murderous saddistic glee and rejoicing at the fact that we lost to an unfancied Italian side. Do the rest of the world regularly tune in for the opinions of Paul Merson, Jason Cundy et al? I've always suspected the global emnity towards us had more to to with our colonialist past, our recent collaboration with the US over international policy, and the fact England fans' aggression and confidence is famously disproportionate to the national team's success over the past 46 years. Didn't realise it was because of this guy:
