Pat Van Den Hauwe appreciation thread

Our kid met him a few months back at a function in town. His description of him was a taciturn and still slightly scary man. Absolute legend.
Not many players had the thousand yard stare. As a personality, he was almost too complicated to be a footballer, if that makes sense.
Of course, he wasn't as devilishly handsome as Neil Pointon but you can't have everything.

I idolised pyycho. I tried to base my game on him as a teenager and even mastered the pat stare at my winger haha. That team was just a perfect blend of aggression and skill and pat played his full part.

Great fullback, indomitable spirit in a blue shirt and as fearless as they come.
A pleasure and joy to watch and support.

Met him in The Post Office pub, just off Hanover Street, he was with Sharpe and Snodin, I know my Everton History and
players but couldn't recognise Pat, Sharpy said "you must know him, you know Snods and me, he played in the same team
when we won the league" I said " well he looks ten years younger than you two" Pat just smiled and said " take no notice of them two, I never played for Everton". it was him though and I had a good chat to him about mutual people we know. He's back from South Africa for good now and is set to stay in Liverpo

Met him a few times when he's been the guest speaker upstairs in players. In his book he talks about being a different person to the crazy days and meeting him in person seems to back this claim up. Total gent

Didn't he have quite a lot in common with another former player, Joleon Lescott? Both played as Left Back and Centre Back (albeit preferred positions were reversed).

And both spent time out of the game with mysterious knee injuries, allegedly delivered as a result of putting their tackle somewhere it wasn't appreciated...

Loved him he was not technically the best but he could defend he was not a faux hard man like some back in the 80's ( Mcmahon)
he was schooled in a hard Birmingham team he fitted perfect in Howard's team

I got this boss card of big H congratulating Pat at the end of the Norwich win :)

A stanley knife incident comes to mind.

Cant remember the game, but the oppositions player nailed Trevor Stephen a few times, and after about ten minutes Pat drifted right across the pitch, did the lad then went back to his station. :) very much a man of his time, he would be perma-banned nowadays what with cameras every ten metres around the ground!
