Our next striker

I can't imagine watching our games and thinking a better striker would fix things, unless you're talking someone like Kane or Haaland. Like I just don't know where these extra goals come from - a better striker finishes more moves off, how many good moves are actually going unfinished?

Like sure if we can find a Lukaku 2.0, that would be amazing. But...players like Troy Parrott?
I thought in very specific instances such as Barry missing that prime opportunity at Sunderland but otherwise I concur. There's a magical thinking on this site we get a new striker and he's just going to be prolific like there's no fundamental issues at play. Like you said unless it's a top caliber striker even someone better will probably encounter struggles as well with how we play

Oh yeah absolutely. And even then you can find a compilation of truly howling misses from every top striker that's ever played - they just happen. Insanely unlucky that Barry had one happen when he did

Agreed unless your Suarez, Henry or Rooney who weren’t reliant on service you haven’t got a chance in this team

We aren't going down.

So sit on our hands and try for Liam Delap in the summer.

Unless, a decent loan or Zirkzee, who it sounds like the club like or similar opportunity arises.
Yeah, given so many people are prepared to give the manager a free pass for results while we're missing a few players, there is little point spending money now on what will soon be, if the white flag wavers are to be believed, a dead season.

If we're not taking a minimum of five points from the next three eminently winnable games (Forest, Wolves, Brentford), then we won't be making Europe. If we go out of the cup straight after those, that's that for this season.

Why spend money then, especially when the recruitment was so bad last summer, led as it was by a manager who may be gone come summer? Certainly, if he's not getting decent results over the coming fortnight the argument for his continuation will diminish.

Ordinarily, I'd be all in favour of spending - we need better players - but January rarely provides value, the season's aims look shot - or could be by the time the window is open in earnest - and last summer's recruitment was so bad that I have no confidence in a better result this time around.

I'd keep the powder dry for the new man come summer. If Moyes proves me wrong, wins the next three and beats Sunlun, well, then there's an argument for reinforcements. But his role last summer leaves me with little confidence in any process that he signs off on.

plenty of games this season we just needed a jelavic level striker (let alone lukaku) that we would have won or got a result out of;

villa
west ham
sunderland
spurs
burnley
dare i say city

all would had more points on the board with someone who didnt fall over when the ball got crossed into them

Yep and a glance at the XG stats show that as well.

Both things can be true. We need a better striker and we need to create more chances and get more bodies in the box.

Yeah I'd love ti have a really good striker instead of Beto who we can rotate with Barry while he develops. But I feel very strongly that we have to improve the wider team first - unless we get a genuinely world class striker then they will also struggle; there is no position that is more at the mercy of how the team plays as a whole than striker. No point sticking a flashy spoiler on a car that's missing a whole wheel I feel.

Can we consider buying a striker who isn’t a target man type for once?

Does he have to be a big lump who can head the ball but can’t finish regularly?

some nippy poacher type like parrot would do nicely.
