Our innovative kick-off routine

I remember Charles Hughes, who advocated (and heavily influenced) English football adopt long ball tactics. It was crap then, as it is now, you only have to look at the failure of the England national team in tournaments.

if you've never heard of him :

Didn’t we score one or hit the post or something from doing that earlier in the season?

Edit - against villa. Kick off went straight to Pickford who pumped it forward, Barry won the knockdown and Rohl hit the post.

The POMO…that’s what Charles called it.

The Position Of Maximum Opportunity.

Play two big men up top and lump it toward them in the hope one of tthem would nod it down and cause mathem in the opposition defence.

Worked well for Wimbledon in the 80s.

Big Jack renamed it “put ‘em under pressure” and did well with the Republic 😂

It ain’t pretty and reeks of caveman tactics but you know what, I prefer it to kicking off and playing it back to the goalkeeper to give him “an early feel of the ball”.
