It was so the ref could see the difference, say playing Leeds who had white socks.
We would change them to the second Amber socks

As Eggs says, it was Amber not Orange. It was a little tweak when a kit clash occurred, rather than change the whole kit. Why we haven’t returned to this traditional change kit of amber shirts, blue shorts and amber socks? But then again, I’m still fuming about us not wearing blue socks with white tops for our regular kit. See 1966 cup final (our greatest ever line up btw)
