Once a blue- Thoughts on Waynes Departure

From a local perspective, I hadn't seen Everton coverage on the Idiot Box like that since Cahill was playing.

At the very, very, least, it was an excellent marketing opportunity that the club totally blundered. I didn't begrudge him leaving the first time because there was zero chance of us hitting the heights of Man U. and I don't begrudge him leaving again because he can't hit the heights of the PL anymore.

Absolute class when he came through, was at the arsenal game and what a moment that was.

He left and won everything at club level, the nonsense deal we got another of Kenwrights crimes against the club. A bit romantic and hypocritical to suggest he should have stayed and got Everton into the champions league, any player from any other club and everyone on here would agree he made the right choice.

He definitely wanted to come back and do well, but in that instance I think two/three seasons too late to be deserving of universal goodwill, I've no bitterness to the lad, a top footballer and lifelong blue

...it didn’t work out but I don’t think it was a lot to do with him. He came into a squad and team which really struggled despite the pre-season expectation. Managerial change, lack of playing strategy. There were glimpses of real quality, there were goals, there was attitude. I understand we didn’t win a game without him.

The driving incident was a let down but Rooney was the least of our problems on the pitch. Saying that, a deep lying quarterback is not the type we need. Spraying long passes are easier to defend than having a powerful and able runner getting us up the other end of the pitch and drawing out defenders.

Rooney is one of the all-time greats of the English game, younger folk on GOT will tell their grandchildren they saw him play. It was a privilege.

I've got no real feelings about him leaving tbh. If he'd stayed with us in the first place then sure, this would be a sad occasion, but we've barely had him as a player. A few games as a kid, and a few games as a slightly overweight, slow, old man (relatively speaking), just means that I'm not fussed one little bit. He needs to go now as his legs have gone, and we've sorted that. One huge wage bill gone, many more hopefully to follow.

Best of luck to Wayne, enjoyed watching him play had some good moments last year...
Still think it's not the last we will see of him...

An accurate assessment sir, although his move to United could be described as a necessary evil.
There had been very little investment at the club for a considerable time thanks to Peter Johnson, and the Rooney fee allowed Moyes to rebuild the squad which ultimately brought stability back to the club.

Good luck to him, he found something in life that he was good at and made a fortune doing it.

unprofessional leech who rinsed the club on his return whilst offering absolutely zero in return 95% of the time

made up hes gone

Everton can be proud of the fact that by teaching him to play football and then packing him off to Manc-land , they kept at least one bad scall off our streets.

When he broke into the team as a kid, everyone would get to their feet the moment he got the ball. There was a crackle of electricity.

Could have been the greatest. Even better than Young, Ball or Dean.

He just never improved by a few critical small margins to be the best he could at United. Came back too late. And now I feel no animosity, but just a twinge of sadness about what could have been after he left the first time.

I took this pic off the telly when he scored at Anfield...
Clearly made up scoring for us there.
