On this day, March 14 1964, also a Saturday, as a sports mad 7 year old, I sat listening to one of these as Arkle finally beat Mill House and won the Cheltenham Gold Cup and later to the reports coming in from the FA Cup semi finals as West Ham beat Man Utd (3-1) and Preston NE beat Swansea Town (as they were then) 2-1. My parents had no interest in sport and would have been gardening or decorating. I had the rarity of the sitting room to myself. Bliss.
