Haha, I'm with you. When I was in high school around the Sydney 2000 games, we were very smug about our sporting achievements. We would win a world championship in a random sport and it would make the headlines because it was "LOOK HOW GOOD WE ARE AT EVERYTHING! EVEN SPORTS WE HATE!" There was always montages on what we had won. 1999 Rugby WC, 1999 RL World Cup, Ashes, great Olympic haul etc... Now we are having an average sporting time and the knives are out and the government funding is being criticised and overanalysed. One of the papers released a "report" on how much money was spent by the government on each medal we won.
