I was looking for an old photo of King George the V playing fields - no luck .....

…The Gypsum Boulder, Liverpool Rd, Crosby. Found in 1898 and displayed here until moving to nearby Coronation Park in 1926. Thought to weigh 18 tons it was unearthed by Crosby man, Edward Peters from his brick field in Cooks Lane;

Looking north towards Aigburth from The Garston Hotel about 1960, massive Coal depot and sidings on the left.
Times have changed, once I was deemed old enough...9 or 10 Every 3 months I would be given £5 in an envelope - which was somewhere near a weeks wages - to take to the guy in the wooden office you can see through the gate to pay the coal bill and I didn't even get to keep the couple of coppers change.

Fast forward to 1969 looking the other way towards The Garston Hotel and the village, the 1957 Clean Air Act has done its job and all the coal is gone.
