August 1972 First home game of season for efc which they won 2-0, Joe Royle scored but here he's taking a penalty against Alex Stepney - did he score or was it saved? These 2 big clubs finished in 17th & 18th places.
Scored, straight down the middle as usual.

We actually started well that season and were near the top after 10 or 11 games - then fell away so badly that the Catt was 'moved upstairs' by April.

Sept 71 Ross Jenkins (not shown) has scored Palace's opening goal in the first game of a new era - Bobby Kellard 7 left & John Craven right were making debuts. 26k gate saw a 2-1 home win.
Big lanky striker Jenkins. Also scored against us in 1-1 draw at Goodison the following season, and I've just checked to see that he only scored two goals in his Palace career. Some things don't change!

All hands to the pumps in the EFC penalty area as George Telfer & Ken McNaught deal with TractorBoys Trevor Whymark & David Johnson (twice a Toffee ) causing mayhem. Ipswich won this 1-0 to maintain Fairs Cup challenge
