Gordon West played his last game for Everton against Newcastle on 25th April 1973 then retired.. coming out of retirment 3 years later and made 17 appearences for Tranmere Rovers..
Alan Ball passed away the same date 34 years later... sorry but that day is burnt in my brain..

I think that team group is from even later - 1974-75 - Bob latchford didn't sign until Feb 74. I was surprised too to see West still in the squad that far into the decade. When did he play his last game?

73. He went on to play a few games for Tranmere (I saw a couple of them) in his early 30s - he was no Burridge or Nev in age terms.

Used to play footy right by that in our dinner time way back in the 70s when I worked for the old Liverpool corpy, we all had our steel toecap work boots on, it always got a bit tasty.
