The hard as nails defender you mention, for me in my earlybdays of support for us was Sunderland legend Charlie Hurley.
Proper nails.
a defender that I always liked , was Mike Bailey of Wolves. Then there was the hardcases like J.Charlton.....R.Yeats.....P Crenard ( man utd).
Their was Mike England....McCreadie ( chelsea).....J.Armfield.....The great B.Moore. Not all were hard cases. But all were top defenders.
.And do you remember big Terry Hennessey. Also sticks in my mind a guy called Murray. Who I think only played for Cardiff. There are many many more. Thinking about those players , I always think that some of them didn't look like footballers . If you know what I mean.
And as for strikers.........what about J.Greaves......B.Charlton......D.Law.....G.Best......D.Dougan......R.Davies...
.F.L ee......R.Hunt......G.Hurst.......R.Marsh.
And one goalscorer that always comes to mind when thinking about 1960s players is Don Rogers. ( Swindon Town).
You get my point.......I could ramble all day long about footballers from the 60s and 70s. But Dario Darracotti is spot on. There was a more even playing field back in those days. Every team could win on their day. Or lose.
Ramble down memory lane now over.
Ps......didn't mention any Everton players. We all know our favourites from back in the day.
