All of the above were really good or great players - why were we so unsuccessful in the 70s? I don't think Bingham helped mind you. The late collapse in 75 meant we threw away a title - he did sign Latch and Dobbo I suppose.

Lee was very unlucky in his time - I thought I would never see Everton win anything when I was in my teens which is why I cried my eyes out after the Lampard bobbly winner in the FAC SF in 1980, not to mention the theft in 1977 against the RS and losing the League Cup replay to Villa.

I may be wrong but that looks more like Tommy Jackson who was playing in the Burnley match (Peter Mellor in goal) during the Championship season which also explains why the upper balcony is empty.

My sentiments exactly. I'd add Andy King to Bingham's great signings, and let's not forget he wanted to sign Peter Shilton, who could have made all the difference to us.

There were some cracking banners the following year in Rotterdam v Rapid. My favourites were 'GOODNIGHT VIENNA' and 'SCOUSE NOT STRAUS'

IMO, poor GKs and very ordinary defences. Also not helped that we competed against some exceptional teams.

Can someone please post an image of the banner from the 1984 FA Cup final that said ‘Sorry Elton, I Guess That’s Why They Call Us the Blues’ ?

I was at Wembley that day but I can’t seem to find an image of the banner anywhere.
