It was truly a brutal place in the 1960s.
This pic is from the latter days of the pen in 1974. The height of the fence was initially raised to try and prevent kids from climbing over into the Gwladys St. It was then completely 'caged in' in the late 60s to prevent objects (mainly 'jubbly' cartons full of water, (or worse) being thrown over. I Think it wasn't finally demolished until 1977.
