Ken McNaught gets stuck in to some carrot-topped no-mark. By the summer of '77 Ken looked like he'd be a fixture in our defence for many years but was surprisingly sold to Villa for the then hefty sum of £200,000, after impressing against them in the League Cup Final saga. He went on to win the League and European Cup with them and with hindsight it's easy to say we should have kept him. However, we seemed to have plenty of cover in that area with Lyons, Kenyon, and Dave Jones, and also had Mark Higgins and Billy Wright coming through, the former so highly rated that everyone thought he was a certainty to play for England; but for injury he surely would have done.
