Rooney is not going back to Everton,unless after he has retired and brings his children to watch the team.
The wages and bonuses he will earn at either Utd or Chelsea , the money he can earn from promoting products etc as a Utd or Chelsea player would come into the tens of millions. At Everton he would earn a small fraction of that.
I wouldn't be surprised if this move is being engineered to try and raise his profile again as it certainly had dipped at Utd in recent seasons.
I think whatever deal will be organised will mean that Everton get nothing from the deal,so don't expect a windfall.

Hasn't LCAB stated numerous times that Rooney will be playing for Everton, likely in 12-18 months? Any Chelsea deal makes this improbable.
Hopefully he started saying this 12-18 months ago!
Honestly though, no one, no matter how ITK they may be, can predict anything years in advance when it comes to a football player.
I say player as it was always fairly obvious that Moyes was going to United eventually.
If I was offered Juan Mata + 10m for Rooney I'd bite their hand off I must say.
Totally agree, mate. Just that there was never any of the usual ITK coy, ambiguous language used with the Rooney situation. He was pretty overt and, since he and THT obviously know a few people involved with the club, it seemed like there could be something in it.
