Noel and a consortium are looking into buying the BBC and running it as a profit making organisation.

He is correct in the video, that the BBC does need an overhaul and making relevant to the current digital, online age we are in. i.e streaming, on demand, catchup etc.

I do expect more for my TV license. It has increased quite a lot IIRC correctly over the last 10 years or so since I bought my first one, but I don't think what you get has increased by the same ratio. It seems impossible to run the level of service they need for this day and age on the current method of income.

Is this the right way to go, privatisation and profit? Or will it just descend into a clone of sky, itv, c4 with adverts and not many great programs?

All a bit of a non-story isn't it? I mean he doesn't actually say anything of substance. If he came back with something concrete, ie could reveal who was in his consortium, what their plans were etc. then it might be worth talking about.

wonder if the secret man in the consortium is rupert murdock?

That would be a suprise! Sign up for sky to watch Eastenders, followed by Glee, followed by songs of praise

Looks like Noel may face some competition....

As an aside though, ITV have a current market capitalization of £8.17bn. I dare say that the BBC would be worth considerably more than that. As a point of comparison, BSkyB are worth just under £15bn.

Assuming it's in that kind of ball park therefore, do we really think Edmunds would have access to that kind of capital?
