Nights like this don't happen for us

Felt sorry for Moyes. He set us up to get after them and we looked very good in the first 15 minutes, no "knife to a gun fight' there, and then we went down to 10 men. I've been a big critic of Moyes' mindset against the sky pets, but, he showed no timidity tonight. I'm big enough to admit that I may have been too ready to have dismissed Moyes confidence to go to Old Trafford and really have a go. Unfortunately the sending off changed it all. Gueye should hang his head in shame. Still, what an effort the lads he let down put in.

Tonight's result pretty much closes the door on what has been a torrid last five years.

End of November 2020 was probably the peak under Carlo. Results after were generally o.k but then dipped and finished 10th that season. Then all the carnage on and off the pitch started and it still is lingering in people's minds.

The manner of tonight means I think for first time now the mentality shifts from looking over shoulders in upper bottom half position and can really kick on now to finish 8th or 9th and build from there in the coming years. It is different to say the derby win in April 2024 as there was still endless uncertainty with the club and manager and that continued over into the next season.

Or Everton being Everton it will now be a winless run for next 6-7 games and everything I've just said won't happen!

The guys played their hearts out tonight and there was real steel displayed in high pressure situation. And also with 20 minutes to go a realisation this result wouldn't be thrown away like so many down the years.

So now up on the Friedkin group to step up in future transfer windows and continue building where it is needed.
