Player Valuation: £100k
Magpies manager Chris Hughton has identified Donovan as an ideal replacement for Hatem Ben Arfa, who is not due to return to action until March after suffering a double leg break against Manchester City earlier this month.

Donovan, 28, is also desired for his versatility as he can play as a striker or in midfield and Hughton is desperate to strengthen his attacking options in January to provide support for Andy Carroll.

Newcastle hope to pip Everton to Donovan’s signature by wrapping up an early deal with both the player and the club over a January loan move.

“He is exactly the signing Newcastle need with Ben Arfa out with a long-term injury,” a Newcastle source told Goal.com UK.

“The boss is worried the team rely too much on Andy Carroll and Donovan has proven that he can hurt defenses in the Premier League.

“It would work really well for the player because he will be guaranteed a game every week and for the club because those three months after Christmas will be vital – we want a mid-table finish.”

We don't....and what great motivation

I'm still standing on L.C.A.B.

The only way in hell this would ever happen is if for some reason we don't make an offer.

He loved it here, mates with Timmy and probably a few of the other lads now, knows Moyes & all the staff, how we train, our style of play etc...

Even tweets about us and all that.

Newcastle has nothing to offer - it's a loan deal on the terms of his Galaxy contract, so they can't come in with silly wages!

No way is this happening.

But if Wobbly head took an interest..........

Nah, he's coming here. End of.

Laughed when I first saw this. It was posted up on Goal a few days ago.
No actaul quotes apart from a "Newcastle Source" - bollox

Apparently a poster on a forum up there that goes by the name 'worbigcurlymickyquinn' is well in the know, and he says he's heading there in jan.
Nice fella apparently, but wears some kind of espadrill/kung fu slipper on a bitter day.

Sometimes stuff like this is floated out there just to drive up the costs for another team. The more we have to pay for a LD transfer, the less money we have to pay for other players, which will suit Newcastle just fine. Creating an artificial market can give MLS more leverage to get a larger fee out of us.
