New Everton Stadium Discussion

That's not what's being claimed is happening.

The stadium bid is real. If someone gets the funds for it maybe it happens. But it's another wing and a prayer.

Two and a half years since Everton declared the site as the one they wanted, we have no evidence of funding for it, and permission to build is a long long way off.
Is a brief, but fair summary.

But you’ve just said the Club were amateurs? You can’t have it both ways.
The Club will spend the several hundred thousand pounds (not millions) on very well placed consultants who will know the best way to deal with this. If it is possible then the Club will make it happen. Just enjoy the ride.
They have just had their attentions drawn to it (as we all have) over the last few days. That's why they've reacted to it. A professional approach would not have to firefight like that, but to get on top of the issue so it doesn't arise again...maybe by producing a design and plan of action that actually would satisfy what's being asked of them.

Typical of the club: they had 12 months to make headway on this with other interested parties and did nothing...which all the time points in the direction of this BMD scheme being a wild goose chase.

You honestly think they are just reacting now!? Dear me.

In addition to preserving and renovating the historic tower, the Blues' stadium plans will also include proposals to protect the original dock walls and retain a waterway linking the adjacent docks as part of a network.

You honestly believe that they have only had their attention drawn to this "in the last couple of days"lollol

"Quick, what can we do? We weren't expecting this!"
"I know, we'll say that we'll preserve and renovate the tower, protect the dock walls, retain a waterway and reflect the history of the dock in the design"
"Yeah, that'll stall 'em for a while"

Come on, that’s plain daft. It’s been in the press for over a year that the Club has been navigating the WHS situation. If you think the Club and it’s advisers haven’t considered WHS way before entering in to the agreement for lease then you are very mistaken. This is not recent news or a recent consideration.

Press reports about UNESCO kicking off again; four days later club responds in local press with 'preservation' story.

This is just predicatable amateur night stuff by the Keystone Cops who run Everton. All SOOOO predictable.

No, not their attention drawn to it: the fans' attentions drawn to it...then they firefight the story.

12 months ago it was supposed to be sorted. Anderson and Barrett Baxendale meeting UNESCO in NY to iron things out; assurances given...then 12 months later UNESCO are wondering wtf happened to the assurances.

Of course, the only power UNESCO has is to threaten or to remove World Heritage Status from Liverpool. However, the UK government signed the Convention on World Heritage Sites (a Convention has treaty status) and is required by it to defend World Heritage Site status. It does this by means of the planning process with the power to refuse planning permission to proposals which risk losing WHS.

Peel, or course, would prefer no WHS Status as it could build higher than would otherwise be allowed.

UNESCO identifies many issues with the management of the development, not just the stadium.

https://whc.unesco.org/en/soc/3881 lists its concerns and shows the draft decision to remove WHS presumably intended to provoke council or government action. (It had, it seems, advised the council against allowing a football stadium at BMD)

What will happen? No idea.

You're all over the place here mate.

Yes, by the press and the fans reacting to it. Then they act...with a press release about preserving a tower...which should have UNESCO squared off like. :coffee:
