What happens if we get relegated?

Can't build a stadium on 'what ifs'

We just spunked £200m on players and had our most disappointing season in decades
Then we end up like MK Dons. Not ideal put it's better than building 50k just because we might get relegated one day. Even though we've only been relegated twice, and the last time was in 1954

Now that I think about it, we might get liquidated in a couple of years. Best to just stay at Goodison

I just watched Wrestlemania 18 and they announced the attendance as 67,000 and something. Obviously with this being wrestling the actual figure was nowhere near that.

It got me thinking that Everton should just do a similar thing.

Announce to the world that we are building a new stadium with a 62,000 capacity (or 122 fewer if you like), but just build it at 52,000 anyway.

I mean, who's gonna count?

So people want us to match "our peers", yet seem to think our peers are City, Chelsea and the like, when our peers are currently Burnley 21k, Leicester 32k and Bournemouth 11k.

But the Etihad is ONLY 55k
Stamford Bridge is ONLY 41k
Anfield 54k
White Hart Lane 36k
Emirates 60k
Old Trafford 75k

So if we built it at 55k we could match or better 4 out of 6 of the top teams in the league.

Was there some tongue in cheek I wonder? City are expanding to 60K Chelsea planning a new ground doing a Tottenham, Tottenham moving to 62K, Hole punch stadium looks like it's going up to 60K.

Cross that bridge when we come to it. We are in no position to be demanding we compete with the top teams in the country in terms of our ground.

We can't exactly build another though. This is something we almost certainly need to be considering now.

Competing is something we should aspiring towards though. We should be looking at the top six, and saying 'that's where we want to be'

Chelsea have become one of the most successful teams in Europe on a redeveloped 41k seater stadium. Now they're upgrading to a bigger stadium, but they've earned that right. Same with City, they didn't just dive into a 60k seater stadium in 2003 in anticipation of them being one of the best teams in Europe in a decade's time.

And you think we compete with a stadium?

Surely that means Arsenal are the 2nd best team in the league behind United?
