Went for the first time on Monday. Notes on the place:
The walk was 25 mins from where we were staying on the north side of the city centre - that's what my Mrs' health watch thing timed it at, and we walk at a fair lick.
The walk down Waterloo/Regent Road on a drizzly Monday night was absolutely miserable. Dark (for some reason the street lights weren't on), bounded on one side by the dock wall and on the other by mixed use commercial units in varying states of repair, punctuated by the odd 'pub'. I assume it's nicer on a sunny Saturday afternoon but it does give the feeling that you're walking to an industrial park with a football ground on it. I thought the approach to the ground and concourse area didn't exactly scream 'Everton'.
Inside the ground, absolutely amazing. I've been to grounds all round Europe and in England and our stadium is the most amazing place I've ever watched a game of football. It's insane how good the noise and the sight-lines are in there and difficult to describe to someone who's not experienced it. Knocks every other ground into a cocked hat. I felt absolutely euphoric (right up until some Man United twonk scored). The 1878 flag display looked brilliant.
Presumably the surrounds, walk-up and access are a work in progress, so see how it looks again in a few years.
