New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

Shuttle buses were a disaster yesterday. Needs more thought. 40 mins from Liverpool one. This was at 1740.

Plus they were blocking accesss to the platforms at Moorfields , citing the platform was full. ( it wasnt as i knew someone down there)
The argument is if you hold people back they cant get on trains they now have to wait so the platforms will be full.!
Answer. Hold in the underpass and let through by shouting the next trains destination.
Took me 2 hours to get back to Heswall.

Down to a single lane that’s why

The issue is down to both selfish car drivers wanting to park on top of the stadium..... and the junctions with Leeds St and turn off for Costco. Total mayhem with cars gridlocking these 2 junctions and stopping the flow. It should be down to one lane for its entire length for shuttle buses to have full segregation. Eventually car drivers, seeing the buses flying through efficiently will leave their cars at home, or park further away and use the shuttles too. Then everyone will get to and from the stadium much more quickly, and those with genuine mobility issues will be able to get better access. That junction needs a yellow grid and traffic police enforcing it. Walked through it several times before and after, cars going through lights when no road space available. Result: no-one moves. Liverpool One Shuttle buses should be comfortably doing 4-5 round trips per hour each. For the hr before and after the match, they're probably doing 1 or 2 at most. In our group, 3 older fellas don't even bother with the night games now as they can't walk that distance, nor stand around waiting an hour for buses. Collectively, they've missed more home games this season than the previous 50 seasons.... and hence the number of empty (unsold resale) seats.

It is bad but I'd question those who try to drive down there at that time when there's signs everywhere saying there'll be traffic restrictions for an Everton game. Also, it's not really any different to the traffic that used to be around goodison on a match day, its just that most people had the sense to avoid the area around goodison if they weren't going to the match.

My only gripes with the new stadium are accessibility for older/disabled fans and the constant empty seats due to the stupid resale platform. However, expecting 50,000 people in one place to not make that area busy is just silly.

Finally a good evening to celebrate at the stadium! Been a long time coming!

Anyhow, we tried a few new things last night...

1. Catering vans in the plaza. Normally only get a beer from the one with the dj, but the boys got chocolate crepes and we also shared a wood fire pizza. Good food and all served within a matter of minutes... pizza took like 5 mins to be cooked.

2. Kids had a go of the VR goalkeeper thing in the family stand. Enjoyed it despite almost taking the TV out when trying to save one of the shots.

3. Blue House after the game... took a while to get served, but good to watch the end of the RS game in there ;)

4. Kebab shop almost next door to it...... nice kebabs and a little sweet shop in there for the kids.

Of course the results makes a difference, but was nice to walk along the North stand after the game and not hit a bottle neck with all of the away fans coming out singing!

Roll on Chelsea in a few weeks time.

Goodison has far more major and minor access/dispersal routes around it. With car parking over a much larger catchment area. It was also possible to be dropped off near GP at several points, with relative ease right up to kick off times.... that's simply not possible now. Those surrounding roads all flowed far better than Great Howard St does before/after our matches at BMD. As clearly stated in the transport plan, there is far greater onus on public transport and walking at the new stadium. If those restrictions were fully adhered to and the controls at those key junctions fully enforced, then the access/dispersal would be much improved. I regularly stay in the ground for an hour or so, and there are still queues of cars at standstill on Grt Howard St when I walk out.

Hopefully, in the near future a better hardwired shuttle system will be in place and that whole junction will be completely remodelled when the King Edward triangle site is fully developed. Otherwise, a lot may not renew or start picking and choosing their matches.

Without bus lanes they are really not a great option. Mrs BR and I took them from Liverpool One and back v Bournemouth because it was teeming rain. Traffic like this photo going out, and long queues for small number of available buses going back.

If it had been dry we would have walked, and it would have been healthier - 2.5 miles takes us about 40 minutes to walk.
