I can remember being at Goodison a few times in the past, when Liverpool were due to play at home that night..... and often noticed a few of their tourist fans walking around our ground, reading the time-line and taking pics etc. We were part of the tourist experience. Our new stadium has probably taken that up a few notches.... especially those staying at the Titanic.
There's a lot of this. For my sins, a friend is one of them, from Norway of course. His son and his girlfriend were at Goodison for the last game versus Southampton. I've also heard loads got tickets for the test events, and have already been to BMD for games. For them it's part of the whole "experience".
Back in the day, when I was based in London, if I ever had a spare for an away game, it was invariably an Asian tourist. Most of the time they were neutrals. The World Cup in Korea and Japan was a big trigger point (back when FIFA actually thought about widening the appeal of the game). When the Premier League got global TV exposure, clubs that had Chinese, Korean players etc. got loads of overseas visitors. We got Li Tie and Li Wiefang - one of whom is famous for doing a stretch in China for corruption.
