New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

On a stadium tour today, shop and tours both booming

Plenty of Reds down having a look too. Always weird that

I've never felt the need to do their stadium tour, but then again I've been there loads of times in the past 50yrs or so, so there would be no point. That said, being a bit of a stadium anorak, I do still try to do stadium tours when on my travels, or preferably take in a game/match if possible, and Ive visited well over hundreds worldwide as a result. Tbh, if Liverpool built a brand new stadium, curiosity might get the better of me too, especially if I couldn't get a Derby tkt anymore.

I love a stadium tour. I was at Old Trafford last Sunday, did the Olympiastadion Berlin two years ago, Stamford Bridge a few years back. The best? Goodison. And that's not just being biased. The tour guides were the friendliest I've encountererd, most humorous, and most authentic. And Everton has a special kind of history that maps to the history of football itself. I look forward to doing the new stadium on my next visit. They really need to install a museum...

I'd like to do a tour of Anfield too.

I'd have a series of questions for their tour guide:

'Eh mate, who used to play here before Liverpool?'

'Eh mate, didn't Liverpool used to play in blue and white at first?'

'Eh mate, can you tell us about the first league title win on this ground?'

'Eh mate, weren't all Liverpool's board of directors Tories until the 1990s?'

'Eh mate, when did Liverpool sign their first Catholic Irishman?'

'Eh mate, why has your history tour gone from 1984 to 1986??'

...I'd probably just ask one. Or maybe none.

I've done a few on my travels as well. Few years ago, was on a beer festival tour of Eastern Europe, and was going from Budapest to Bratislava. There was a bit of a mass migration issue at the time, which had led to rail routes being suspended temporarily, so had the joys of doing it by bus. Got there in plenty of time, to see that the new Ferencvárosi TC stadium is over the road. Said to my mate, let's go and have a look.

We'd just signed Muhamed Bešić as well, so when they clocked I was a Blue, we got green carpet treatment. Stadium tour (very low cost build, not much to it), bought a couple of polo shirts and a first team shirt (I'd had one from my first trip 10 years or so previously) and a decent meal and a couple of beers before our trip. Shame Bešić never worked out though. The Fradi staff thought we'd signed a gem of a player.

I would like to add one more question: What was the original, first proposed name for this club?

What are your favourite stadiums Tom?

I'm a fan of the Atheletico Madrids. Crazy they used an abandoned single stand to build what they have now.

Was closed after they failed to get the olympics.
