New Everton Stadium Discussion

A two lane street is 7.3m wide. Therefore 8m (26ft) is more than enough room for a crowd to disperse through especially if an emergency requires.
Is it 8 metres though?

This is part of the issue: there's no clarity on any of this.

And if it was 8 metres is it shorter / longer than the distance between the stands on Goodison Road / Bullens Road / Gwladys Street and the houses / school / shops / pubs over the road from those stands? Because that's what Everton match-goers are used to right now and it'll be a massive culture shock to not even have that space.

the distance will be very similar as the three tight sides of Goodison. But thats only one side, the other 3 are 'open'.

I'll take your word for that mate, as AFAIK nowhere is there any detailed evidence of it in the official documents pertaining to this build.

Gwladys Street has an accessible depth of just under 8m, that's from Facade to garden walls (Map length, ground length takes into account kerb depths). Not 100% accurate, but probably give or take 250mm considering altitude and perspective.

However, based upon the design drawings, the sections show a BMD North Stand accessible width of 9.4m (9477mm) at the point of the section.

This section isn't however the narrowest point, that is the end towards the fan plaza. I have calibrated the measure tool based upon these section values and the point of section, and measured the narrowest point to be 8.8m (8818mm), so still near a whole meter larger than the space currently available at Goodison

It is also worth considering that at BMD, a large proportion of the fans will exit the building outside of this narrow area, due to the placement of the turnstiles, where they will be expelled directly onto the fan plaza.

You say your estimates of the space behind the North Stand to be 0.8M-1.4M wider than the space behind Gwaldys St. But does that look the case when you view the two images together (admittedly from a different altitude)? That distance between stadium facade at the dock site to that black pillar (which I've been told by @maccavennie represents the width of the access road / walkway): it doesn't look remotley possible that you could get the width of Gwaldys St in there (even from garden walls to the stand) and have between almost 1M to 2M to spare.

The north stand is considerably bigger than the Gwladys Street end. In terms of optics, look at the size of the cars on Gwladys street and much larger trucks at BMD.

Best thing to do Dave is get your tape measure and go and measure it and we can then compare the width

Looking at both pictures, I'd say (at a rough guess) that the street end is 63.4 cm wider give or take a mm or 2.

In all seriousness though, don't worry about it and just get yourself a ticket in the South Stand.
