New Everton Stadium Discussion

Everton is proposing a stadium capacity of 52,000 with the potential for that to rise to 62,000 in the future, subject to further planning permission. The stadium will also be future-proofed for any changes in regulations in relation to safe standing. The design of two of the stands (north and south) will allow for rail seating and in future, should the law change, a safe standing solution.

Inside the stadium, fans would be as close as five metres to the action with all stands offering unobstructed sightlines. The overall design will also help amplify the noise within the stadium ensuring the best possible atmosphere. The home stand would be the South Stand and would consist of a single steep tier of seats, with a super-riser to factor in any future changes in legislation to accommodate safe standing.

A step on a stairway is called a riser. In order to increase the capacity with safe standing, a second riser will be installed along each row to basically double each step and allow two rows of standing to each 1 row seated. If that makes sense.

Some of the seating rows in Goodison cover 2 steps (or more), so I guess it'd be like having people stood one in front of the other on these steps, where one seated person fits?

Yes, like that, having two steps per seated person is how it will work. Also how it works in Dortmund.

Or thinking about it, it might make more sense that by super-riser they're referring to the higher section at the top of the standing section, allowing the seated rows above to maintain a view.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but maybe we should just redevelop Goodison.

*legs it to the bomb shelter

Or have just paid

Where is that quote from? Planning documents? Website? Thanks.

No, the super-riser is the double-height "wall" in the middle of the stand, the junction between the standing area below and the seated area above. It means the people in the first seated row can see over the heads of the last standing row.

We've got one, and the drawings of the BMD south stand show one as well.

EDIT: just seen see you corrected yourself a couple of posts later. ;)
