Neville Southall

You look at Wales Rugby Union with Neil jenkins as their best ever goalkicker. Got given the kicking role and since he's been going that Wales' goalkicking has been scintillating.

When you have someone who's such an expert on something specialist, no matter what sport, you get them in as a coach in that respective area if possible. Some players get where they are through hard work, but sometimes they're just a specialist and know exactly what to do.

We've had goalkeeping problems ever since nev retired and never thought of getting him to help.

He's never been welcomed back at Everton because unlike those that have been custodials of this club in our most barren spell, Southall knows what Nil Satis Nisi Optimum actually means

They just wouldn't be able to pipe him down and he certainly wouldn't tow the party line.

If we'd continued to be successful he would have had a job for life at Everton but there's no chance they'd have risked him over the last 20 odd years.

Last of the truly "world class" players to have ever represented our great club.

Very true macca,he is a loose cannon, they prefer safe like Sharpie,Snods and Stuart unfortunately, the fella is an out and out winner, any statue that is built next at Goodison should be Nev,it won't be though and that is to our clubs shame,I agree with your "last world class player" comment mate, however Kanchelskis must have been mighty close:)

Yes mate, Kanchelskis certainly got us off the edge of our seats ( the same as Beardsley did imo, just that sprinkle of class) but for me, Southall was on another level.

I know Southall says his best game ever was the 8-0 defeat against Holland and I can't find any highlights of that match. But I vividly remember listening to 5 live or some sports channel that match and every 15 minutes it went back to the commentator for updates and they were just mesmerised by the amount of saves he was pulling off. It literally sounded like it should have been about 25-0.

That's the impression I get too, sadly he seems too opinionated for our club of utter mediocrity, and that's why we get treated like crap from everybody.

It was 7-1, highlights show the goals and Nev's horrendous shirt.

Today, whenever a shot comes in on target or a player goes in on our goal I’m thinking they are gonna score. When Neville Southall was playing I always felt he would save it, and he mostly did. Best keeper in the world in his prime.

That's the down side of Pickford, we're always going to be on edge if it's only 1 goal in it because you can't rely on him to not mess up.

Yeah Beardsley, outstanding,we were in my humble opinion for a couple of seasons in the early 1990s a "three man team", Beardsley,Nev and Waggy pretty much maintained our top flight status.

I was wondering if number 7 John McLaughlin (Tiger?) was our former left back, but it appears he played his last season in 1977 for Falkirk, unless anyone knows different?
that one for Rhyl is a former liverpool reserve player i think?
don't know how i recalled that but think its him.

Why he's not our goal keeping coach I'll never know!!!
It's quite simple: he wouldn't toe the party line and in reality he is a loose cannon with his comments. It would be a managerial nightmare hence no role at the club.

Will Nev be bothered? Not in the slightest.

The state of Owen in that, grade A weapon.
Trying to embarrass a child, and Nev firmly puts him in his place.

I think Nev SHOULD have a job at Everton. Use his winning NSNO mentality. Let him have opinions and demand more from the club. He has a closer connection to the fans than the likes of Sharpe, Stuart. Why employ yes men? Nev will shake it up in a way that may get people saying, you know what he's right. we are better than this and this club matters.

Just my opinion though.

Oh, it'd be great if the club at least bought him a new car!
